John Coope. BA Vet MB MRCVS

John Coope qualified from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1981 and moved to Chine House Veterinary Practice. He became a partner in 1983. John is an Equine Clinician. Special interests are reproduction and competition horses. Personal interests are Golf, Running and breeding flat racehorses.

Con Hassett MVB MRCVS

Conleth Daniel Hassett graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1981, and during the following 13 years worked in predominately small animal practice in Co Meath, Wigan, Preston and Leicester City. In 1994 he joined Chine House as a partner, in charge of the small animal department.He is interested in all aspects of small animal practice, especially orthopaedic surgery. He is married to Aine, who runs the laboratory at Chine House. Aine is also a Trinity College graduate, gaining a primary degree in microbiology, and later a PHD in immunology. They have 4 children ranging from 18 to 27 years. Outside the practice he enjoys walking, reading, rugby, holidaying in France and enjoys the occasional glass of wine.

Robin Kernohan BVM&S MRCVS

Robin graduated from the Royal Dick Veterinary College, Edinburgh in 1974. His first job was as an assistant to Peter Thorne of Thorne & Thursby - Pelham, now Avondale Vet Practice. For family reasons he returned to his home town of Ballymena, Northern Ireland where he set up a mixed practice. After a couple of years the strong desire to specialise with horses led him back to the mainland. Working in practices alongside veterinary surgeons such as Les Harris at Tewkesbury and Bob Baskerville at Tucket and Gray, then back across the water for a stint on the Curragh with Ned Gowing. He then worked with Scott Dunne in Berkshire and Alan Walker at Hook Norton, picking up ample experience in all aspects of equine practice. In 1989 he joined John Craven, Micheal Mimms and John Coope, becoming a partner in 1990. Robin now spends the majority of his time doing pre purchase examinations. He married Ruth in 1975 and they have 2 children.

Martin Rudkin BVetMed MRCVS

Martin graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1996, and joined Chine House in the August of that year. He became a partner in 2005. Martin divides his time between large and small animal work, and has particular interests in small animal medicine and cardiology. He is also responsible for the running of the farm side of the practice. From a local farming family, Martin developed a keen interest in farm practice at a young age, spending many years prior to vet school seeing practice with Michael Mimms.

Martin and Sandra recently had a new baby girl Violet.

His spare time is spent with his wife Sandra, their 4 horses, 4 dogs and 2 cats. Martin enjoys running, photography and eventing.

Simon Turner BVSc (Hons) MRCVS

Simon graduated from the University of Bristol in 1989. He worked in the army for 6 years serving at the Kings Troop RHA, in Northern Ireland and Melton Mowbray. In 1995 he joined Chine House and developed the surgical facilities at the practice. He became a partner in 2005. His main interests are equine surgery and dentistry. He is married to Edwina, one of our farm clients. They have 2 young children, Tristan and Francesca.

John Dickerson MA VetMB Cert EP CertEM (Stud Med) MRCVS

John graduated from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1996, and joined Chine House in 1997 after a period doing research supervised by Professor Twink Allen at the Equine Fertility Unit in Newmarket. He gained his certification in Equine Practice in 2003 and his RCVS in Equine Medicine (Stud Medicine) in 2009. His main interest continues to be studwork, particularly artificial insemination, and he is also in overall charge of equine anaesthesia at the practice. He is married to Tina, and they have 2 young children, Rosie and Harriet

Tom Leaman BVSc Cert EP MRCVS

Tom graduated from Bristol University School of Veterinary Science in 1998. He joined Chine House in the August of that year, and gained the Royal College Certificate in Equine Practice in 2005. Tom has a particular interest in Thoroughbred stud practice, but enjoys most aspects of practice work. Tom is married to Claire and they have two children, Harry and Amelia. Outside of work he enjoys country pursuits and cricket.

Assistants

Richard Bannerman BVSc MRCVS

Richard attended Liverpool Veterinary School, and on qualifying worked for 10 years in the North Shropshire Border Country. This was followed by 14 years in the warmer climes of East Devon, a brief interlude and then to Chine House. "I was first exposed to work as a vet seeing practice with Michael Mimms during the draught year of 1976 - things have changed a lot since then!" A traditional general practitioner, he spends most of his time on the farm side of the practice.

David Blow BVSc MRCVS

David Blow graduated from Bristol University Veterinary School in 2002. Following 2 1/2 years working as a mixed practitioner, he decided to concentrate on small animal work and joined Chine House Veterinary Hospital in 2005. He enjoys all aspects of small animal work and has a particular interest in surgery - he recently gained an ESVPS general practitioner certificate in small animal surgery. Outside of work he lives with his partner Victoria, 2 cats, Maggie and Louis, and their terrier, Ralph. He enjoys playing golf and angling.

Lucile Creis BVSc MRCVS M Vet Clin. Stud.

Lucile graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990. She first worked at a racetrack practice in Randwick for 3 1/2 years, before completing a residency in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery ay the University of Sydney. The title of her Masters Thesis was "Wound Healing in Horses". A couple of years in th Republic of Ireland followed, before she joined Chine House in 2000. Lucile is interested in all aspects of equine practice, especially surgery. Lucile has 3 passions in her life: horses, her family and travelling.

Jonathan Garratt BVetMed MRCVS

Jonathan graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2004. He joined Chine House shortly afterwards. Jonathan enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work. Outside of work he is a keen tennis and football player.

Jane Gaul BSc BVM&S MRCVS

Jane qualified in 2006 from Edinburgh University, after previously graduating from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with an Honours degree in Animal Science. She joined Chine House in 2007 and is currently working in the equine and farm animal practice. Her main interests are equine dentistry and anaesthesia. Jane is a keen rider, and competes with her own horse when ever possible.

Georgina Hirst BVetMed MRCVS

Georgina graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2007. After which she spent some time working for S.P.A.N.A., a horse charity in Morocco, before undertaking an internship at the Dubai Equine Hospital in the UAE. Georgina initially joined Chine House in 2008 to cover maternity leave, and has since been working as an equine vet in Berkshire and Oxfordshire. She has now rejoined the practice in a permanent position.

Her main interests are performance horses, neonatal medicine and anaesthesia. Georgina grew up in mid Wales through the pony club and hunted regularly. Her main interest is endurance riding, whether it's bringing on young horses, competing in 160km rides or crewing internationally. She also enjoys running and trying to keep track of her naughty Cocker Spaniel, Lily!

Craig Hunt BVetMed Cert SAM Cert ZooMed MRCVS

Craig qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1997 and proceeded to work in mixed-species practice in East Sussex for 5 years. A subsequent move to Gloucestershire for 3 years followed, before settling at Chine House Veterinary Hospital in November 2005. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2000 and the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine in 2002

Craig aims to provide a personal and high quality first and second opinion service in 'exotic pet' medicine and surgery. Most species of exotic pet are catered for including parrots, raptors, ornamental fowl, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, small mammals, ferrets, primates, amphibians, ornamental fish and invertebrates. He is especially interested in improving owner awareness relating to husbandry and care of exotic species.

He is a member of numerous "exotic" animal societies including BVZS, AAV, ARAV and AAZV. His spare time is spent pursuing hobbies in falconry, cooking, scuba diving and looking after a large menagerie at home! More recently he has been helping his partner, Wendy, in promoting the UK's first pet blood bank with regular blood drives at Chine House.

Alison Pagett BVetMed MRCVS

Alison graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1984. She joined Chine House in 1994 after 10 years working in small animal practice in Kent. She is married with 2 children, Chris and Charlotte.

Greg Quinn BVSc Cert ES (Soft Tissue) Dip ECVS MRCVS

Greg joined Chine House in 2007. After qualifying and working in his native country of New Zealand, Greg moved to the UK in 1997, and spent several years working at an equine hospital in Oxfordshire. He then undertook a surgical residency at the University of Bristol where he gained post graduate qualifications in equine surgery, later completing specialist examinations to become a European Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery. He has moved to us from Cheshire where he was working as head surgeon in a private practice equine hospital. Greg is presently the only ECVS specialist in private practice in the East Midlands, and is primarily based in the hospital taking responsibility for the surgical and referral lameness caseloads. Away from work Greg enjoys golf, rugby, tennis, mountain biking and exploring the outdoors with his wife Charley.

Simon Shone BVSc MRCVS

Simon qualified from Liverpool University in 2001 and began working at Chine House soon after. He is in charge of training the student nurses, and has a keen interest in anaesthesia. Prior to qualifying he was a Pony Club Tetrathlete and point to point rider. He is also one of the course vets at Southwell Racecourse. He married Sarah in 2004, who was one of the veterinary nurses at Chine House.

Visiting Specialist Veterinary Surgeons

Roger Smith MA VetMB PhD Dip ECVS DEO MRCVS

Roger qualified from Cambridge in 1987. He spent a short period of time working in equine practice in Towcester and Oakham, before embarking on a residency in equine surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, London. Roger then completed a PhD and currently is a Professor of Equine Orthopaedics at the RVC. He is a RCVS recognised specialist in equine surgery (orthopaedics) and helps with difficult cases and more advanced surgery. In his spare time Roger has a particular interest in fast cars.

Gayle Hallowell MA VetMB Cert VA Dip ACVIM-LAIM MRCVS

Gayle graduated from the University of Cambridge and completed a rotating Equine Internship at the Royal Veterinary College. She then worked for 3 months at the RVC doing cross species anaesthesia, which allowed her to gain a RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia. She then did a 3 year residency in Equine Medicine and Critical Care at the RVC. During this time she developed an added interest in individual ruminant and camelid medicine. She obtained her American Diploma in Large Animal Internal Medicine in 2006, and is currently carrying out research towards a PhD in Equine Cardiology. Her special interests within medicine are gastroenterology, cardiology and all aspects of critical care in horses and ruminants. Ultrasonography is a particular passion. Publications have focused on circulatory complications in colic patients and the effects of different fluid administration, cardiac problems in colic patients and ultrasonography of the eye, heart and abdomen in horses, ruminants and camelids.

The Practice Manager

Jeanette Chalmers

Jeanette joined the practice as manager in 2000. Her background as a part - qualified accountant was in accountancy in various industries. She enjoys cooking and collects cookery books (old and new). She also enjoys walking, but needs a navigator on longer walks as she cannot map read! She is married to Steve who is from the outer "foreign" parts of Scotland. She has 2 daughters, both of whom are chiropractors.
