Equine Flu Outbreak

As you are probably aware there have been multiple flu outbreaks around the country. The current advice is to make sure that your horse has been vaccinated within the last 6 months to reduce the symptoms and spread of the disease. If your horse is unvaccinated the advice is to start a vaccination course. We will keep you updated of the current advice from the Animal Health Trust as and when we receive it.

There has been an outbreak of equine influenza in Leicestershire. Horses affected by equine influenza, especially unvaccinated horses, can show significant signs of illness including a fever, cough, nasal discharge and reduced appetite. Please check your horse’s passport and make sure vaccinations are up to date. To book a vaccination please contact the practice on 01509 812445. If you need to re-start a vaccination course we will provide one free vaccine as part of your horse’s primary vaccination course. Get in touch to find out more and book your appointment.
